Gabriel swaps metal for pharma

Gabriel swaps metal for pharma: "I would do it again in a heartbeat".

A little over a year ago, Gabriel chose a job as a maintenance technician in the pharmaceutical sector after years of working in the metal industry. Gabriel started via Let's Work and, after his period as a temp, he got his permanent contract. Metal and pharma are almost diametrically opposed when it comes to the type of production environment. And yet, he feels like a fish in water in his white dust jacket in a spotless production environment.

Technical problem solver

His job? Gabriel is responsible for reliable production lines. He resolves malfunctions, adjusts machines and supports operators with technical problems. Every working day is different. One day he concentrates on preventive maintenance tasks. The next day, he displays his most solution-oriented side, when breakdowns require a fast intervention.

Free time thanks to shift work

And he does not do this alone. A team of ten technicians split over three different shifts ensures smooth production. Gabriel: "I alternate between the early and late shifts. Sometimes I replace a colleague in the night shift. With our team, we make sure that there is sufficient technical support during every shift. By the way, shift work was my own choice. The extra freedom during the day is worth its weight in gold to me."

Good training

Even after a year, Gabriel is still learning every day: "I continue to learn from my colleagues and supervisors. The way I am trained is one of the reasons why I felt good in my job straight away. Everything is thoroughly explained. I get an answer to every question. Everyone remains calm and friendly. I feel I can ask questions without hesitation. That ensures that I learn quickly and that our team hangs together well.

A link that counts

Gabriel looks back with satisfaction on his job switch: "If I had to do it all over again, I would definitely make the same choice. I work in a close team and at the same time I am part of an international group. We are involved in the general communication and know what is going on in the company. That way you realise that from your own position you are an important link in the international whole. And that gives me satisfaction."
