Thanks to the expansion into a large number of additional sectors, there are now more opportunities than ever to take on a flexi-job. But who exactly is eligible? How much can you earn tax-free? And what are the new rules you need to know? In this article, we answer the most frequently asked questions about the flexi-job scheme in 2026, so you know exactly where you stand.

What is a flexi-job?

A flexi-job is an advantageous way to earn extra income alongside your main job or pension. You receive flexi-pay on which you do not pay taxes or personal social security contributions. This means that your gross pay is almost equal to your net pay.

Am I eligible for a flexi-job?

You can take on a flexi-job if you meet one of the following conditions:

  • You worked at least four-fifths (4/5) three quarters ago (T-3) as an employee.
  • You are retired.
  • You combine temporary agency work with a flexi-job, provided you do not work for the same employer under both arrangements.

Are you self-employed? Then you are not eligible for a flexi-job.

In which sectors can I do a flexi-job in 2026?

Since July 1, 2026, the flexi-job scheme has been expanded to a large number of additional sectors. As a result, flexi-jobs are now available in the majority of sectors. A limited number of sectors still have specific exceptions or conditions.

Can I do a flexi-job if I am retired?

Yes. Retired people can take on a flexi-job, and since the new regulations came into force, this has become even easier. In addition, retirees are not subject to a legal income limit on their flexi-pay.

Can I do a flexi-job if I work full-time?

Yes. If you work full-time and meet the legal conditions, you can take on a flexi-job. Since July 1, 2026, you may also work a flexi-job within a company affiliated with your employer.

How much can I earn tax-free with a flexi-job?

If you are not retired, you can earn up to €18,440 through a flexi-job in 2026 without paying taxes or personal social security contributions.

If you are retired, there is no legal income limit.

Do I pay taxes on a flexi-job in 2026?

No. One of the biggest advantages of a flexi-job is that your flexi-pay is paid out almost entirely net. You do not pay taxes or personal social security contributions on this income.

Can I combine a flexi-job with temporary agency work in 2026?

Yes. You can, provided that you do not work simultaneously as a temporary agency worker and a flexi-job worker for the same employer.

Can I do a flexi-job with my own employer?

No. In principle, you cannot take on a flexi-job with your own employer. If you work full-time, you may, since July 1, 2026, take on a flexi-job with an affiliated company of your employer.

How much do you earn per hour with a flexi-job?

That depends on the sector and the employer. You will receive at least the legally established flexi-pay applicable to your position and sector.

What changes to the flexi-job scheme take effect from July 1, 2026?

From July 1, 2026, the flexi-job rules have been expanded and relaxed. The main changes are:
